Join us to honor those working to support rights and equality for all at the first annual Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, Force For Good Awards. We will be celebrating those who are stalwarts for justice in three categories, Congregation, Community and Legislature.
This year’s recipients are:
1. The Mountain Sky Area of the United Methodist Church & Bishop Karen Oliveto, for their way of being grounded in justice and committed to standing in difficult spaces, holding tension across difference, while grounded in love. Bishop Karen Oliveto is the first openly gay Bishop in the United Methodist Church, and The Mountain Sky Area is the body of churches who have been committed to the process and ultimately to striving for equality and welcome of all people.
2. Denver Homeless Out Loud, for their modeling of how to call for a new way of being grounded in mutual relationships and dignity for all people. For more than five years, Denver Homeless Out Loud has been calling for basic human rights for people experiencing homelessness, for an end to policies that criminalize people for surviving. Simultaneously, they have been working to create alternative ways of understanding and bringing to reality ‘home’ and ‘community’. This year, they were the key partner in making Beloved Community Village, Denver’s first tiny home village for people experiencing homelessness a reality.
3. Representative Joseph Salazar, for being a stalwart voice and activist in the State House working for rights and equality. Specifically, for his role in bringing the Freedom Defense Act to the Colorado House and to the public eye as we name together that Colorado will not participate in marginalization, registries, or internment camps. Rep. Salazar stands with refugees, immigrants and religious minorities to assure that all are safe in Colorado.
The celebration will be at Redline Gallery at 2350 Arapaho Street in Denver.
