Project 2025, a blueprint developed by the Heritage Foundation and supported by various conservative organizations and political leaders, poses a dire threat to religious freedom. It aims to reverse many historical freedoms of the American people, putting religious liberties at stake. The implications of this for a multi-faith society and human rights are profound, as it threatens to impose a singular religious perspective on our society, potentially erasing the rights and freedoms of many individuals. This should concern us all and motivate us to take action to protect our religious freedoms.
Project 2025 is part of a broader conservative movement to shape U.S. policies according to particular ideological, conservative Christian principles. Within this proposal, Project 2025 threatens to force extreme limits on reproductive rights and the rights of LGBTQ+ people, reverse LGBTQIA marriage laws, demand Christian Nationalist moral codes to be infused in governmental policies, regulate the language of “the family,” ensure that “family” is only defined by cis-gendered heteronormative practices, erase different viewpoints from school curricula and libraries, redirect public funding into private religious schools, and further to blur critical boundaries between religion and government.
As an interfaith community, it’s imperative that we unite to combat the extreme right-winged phenomenon of Christian nationalism that jeopardizes the religious lives of all Americans. Our unity is our strength, and together, we can stand against this threat and protect our religious freedoms.
“Religious communities are uniquely positioned to fight back and protect our democracy.”
