The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado is deeply committed to protecting democracy and engaging communities across Colorado. We rely on our incredible network of values-aligned congregations, faith leaders, and partners to promote and help in this work. Civic engagement is a key way that we work to ensure these protections. As stated in our logo, we will continue working towards “Achieving Democracy Together.”
While Interfaith and our partners work to shape, refine, and strengthen our democracy through policy and advocacy work every year, we are also identifying threats that undermine it. from those who want to retain and expand their power. Now, more than ever, we must work together to protect our democracy, ensuring that ALL Coloradans have the opportunity to engage civically and make our voices heard. We know that by working together in determined, principled resistance, we can protect our voting rights and ensure that our elections reflect the will of the people of Colorado.
That is why we are proud to announce our partnership with Colorado Common Cause to establish our Interfaith Poll Chaplain Program!
The Interfaith Poll Chaplain Program will equip clergy and faith leaders to ensure that Coloradans from all traditions and backgrounds will have access to the polls on election day. As trusted community members, faith leaders are uniquely situated to speak with moral authority, and Interfaith will provide the training, framework, and tools needed to engage with the community around voting.
What to Expect:
Poll Chaplains walk community members to and through the voting process, providing encouragement and information, documenting and reporting concerns, discouraging and de-escalating voter intimidation efforts, and generally contributing to calm and transparent election administration. As a part of the Interfaith Poll Chaplains cohort, faith leaders from across the state of Colorado will attend required training to learn about election protection, de-escalation, and the role of a poll chaplain. While election day will be a key date for participation, there will be other ways to get involved with promoting voting and protecting voting rights.
